Chip & Joanna's "Fun Social Experiment" Turns Ugly

Chip and Joanna Gaines, beloved HGTV stars and home design entrepreneurs, just lost something that money can’t buy—their Christian audiences. Chip released a promo of their new HBO Max series, “Back to the Frontier,” where three families leave modern life to “find what matters most” on a journey back to the 1800s frontier.”

Chip calls it “a social experiment plus family time well spent.”

The only problem is, it’s a social experiment turned ugly. One family consists of two homosexual men raising their adopted boys—a glaring impossibility for America’s frontier life that is not fit for family time in any era.

The signs that Chip and Joanna have moved away from traditional Christianity have been evident for years.

1. In 2020, Joanna changed her picture on Instagram to a black square in solidarity with BLM.

2. The June 2022 cover of her magazine featured a pride flag—and they never pulled out of Target when the retailer when full LGBTQ+.

3. Their Magnolia Journal magazine features a humanistic inspirational approach to living instead of any clear or faithful representation of Christian teaching.

Today, they are working to normalize same-sex families. The gay men in “Back to the Frontier” explained in a recent interview their goal in the series: to convince more people to view homosexual marriage as completely normal and legitimate, that raising boys without a mother is perfectly loving and kind.

Don’t be fooled by the “we’re just a couple of regular dads trying to raise our sons.” Joe Riggs and Jason Hanna are big influencers in the gay community, and creators of the Teddy Bear Party—a foundation advocating for “LGBTQIA+ Equality, Social Justice,” and “defeating diseases.” It’s a 501c3 charitable organization.

No one ever tells us what the “+” stands for, and we fear it extends to relations involving children.

Sadly, these men are also advocates for surrogacy. They purchased laboratory services and eggs from random women so their babies could be conceived in an artificial womb. Then they had the newly created babies transferred to a woman who is not biologically related to them in any way, and rented her womb. When the babies were born, they were taken from the only mother they’d ever know.

The Golden Touch

The entertainment industry news outlet Variety announced in November 2022 that Chip and Joanna Gaines were joining the HBO Max/Warner Brothers/Discovery team. They are said to be longtime friends of CEO David Zaslav, and are helping him bring their “huge fan base” to a new streaming service.

Is the base ready for a homosexual family pretending to live on the 1800’s American frontier? It seems completely absurd.

Zaslav told Variety that he wanted to grab Chip and Joanna because “Everything they touch turns to gold, and we have no doubt the one-of-a-kind programming they and their talented team at Magnolia Network bring to life will prove to be an important driver for our upcoming combined streaming service.” He highlighted that their show, “Fixer Upper: The Castle,” quickly became a top-five program and he wants more of the same.

Chip and Joanna appear to have betrayed their audience for 30 pieces of silver.

Here are some of the comments they’ve received on X:

• CHS (X) - So authentic 1881 living. How do you square that with portraying 2 men as married with 2 children. Both extremely unfeasible. Seriously, who is your audience? I’m old enough to remember your being disparaged and harassed by the “rainbow coalition” and here you are pandering to them. Biblical? Christian? Your rebranding is sad and hardly family entertainment.

• Josiah Patton (X) - Nothing says "family" like two sodomites in a wicked relationship w/no ability to reproduce, limited only to eugenics or human trafficking, in order for them to obtain a child that they are statistically likely to sexually abuse or rape to death

• Pagemasta (X) - Way to capitulate, you coward.

• Sean Davis (X) - Affirming sin isn’t loving. “Go and sin no more.” Enjoy your millstone.

Chip was ready for the blowback. He used the same tired response that’s a favorite of atheists and social liberals alike: don’t judge, just love.

He wrote,

“Talk, ask [questions], listen.. maybe even learn. Too much to ask of modern American Christian culture. Judge 1st, understand later/never.”

He followed it with:

It’s a sad Sunday when “non believers” have never been confronted with hate or vitriol until they are introduced to a modern American Christian… Judge not. Love one another. It’s not difficult.” (punctuation added)

It seems Chip has forgotten James 5:20, which tells us that he which converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. Or is that too judgy?

Polygamy Too?

But wait, there’s more.

Chip and Joanna also have a professional and personal relationship with a photographer involved in gross sin.

Billy Jack Brawner is Magnolia’s director of photography, a husband and father. He and his wife Sarah have five children, four are adopted. According to Daily Wire’s Megan Basham, when Brawner became involved with another man, Sarah allowed him to bring the gay lover into their home to help raise the children.

Chip and Joanna Gaines did not address the sin in this situation, but instead have affirmed Brawner in his terrible choices.

Why this Matters: Chip and Joanna might have gained the applause of the HBO Max crowd, but they’ve lost faithful believers who know what Jesus said: If you love me, keep my commandments. Affirming Sodomy and polygamy isn’t showing the love of Christ, it’s an affront to His commandments. Every day we have the choice to be a friend of the world and an enemy of God, or to affirm God’s Word by our actions. Let’s make every choice for Him.

How to Pray: For Chip and Joanna to have a change of heart and repent to God. Pray that believers will take heed and see the danger of money and fame and seek to overcome temptation. May we all be able to speak the truth in love to those caught in habitual sin. Thank God for helping us to choose life and believe what He said—it is accounted to us for righteousness. James 2:23
