Anti-Democratic Actions are "Threat from Within"

JD Vance set the world straight on Friday when he addressed EU bureaucrats at the Security Conference in Munich. The “commissars,” as he labeled them, pretend to promote democracy, but their anti-freedom policies betray their people. Vance declared, “The threat I worry most about, vis a vis Europe, is not Russia or China, or an external actor... it's the threat from within—the retreat of Europe from its fundamental values."

Vance highlighted several recent anti-democratic actions by EU governments:

• Romanian supreme court cancelling elections

• Brussels “commissars” (name for officials in the Communist Party in charge of indoctrination) warn they will shut down social media for hateful content

• Munich police conducting raids against people posting anti-feminist content

• Quran burnings in Sweden resulting in a man’s murder. A judge said the activist was not given a “free pass to offend”

• UK man was arrested for silently praying 50 meters from an abortion clinic for three minutes.

• None of these are flukes—Scotland is now issuing warnings that private prayer within one’s own home can be a crime if the home is near an abortion clinic.

“There is a new sheriff in town,” Vance declared. “Under Donald Trump’s leadership, we may disagree with your views, but we will fight to defend your right to offer them in the public square… We must do more than talk about our shared democratic values and defending democracy, we must live them.”

Ironically, Vance’s speech was accompanied by two nearby migrant terror attacks. In Munich on Thursday, an Afghan asylum seeker drove his car into a crowd and killed a two-year-old girl and her mother. In Austria on Saturday, a 14-year-old boy was killed and four others were injured when a Syrian migrant went on a stabbing spree.

Vance told the conference members that the Trump administration wants to work with the EU to promote free speech, and also frame budget questions by defining what we are defending in the first place. “What’s the positive vision?” Vance asked. “If you’re afraid of opinions and consciences, there’s nothing the US can do for you—and nothing you can do for the American people.”

The answer is to be more responsive to your people, he told them.

Why this Matters: Vance’s speech, though criticized by EU bureaucrats, was highly praised by American conservatives. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio went on the Sunday shows to defend the speech and the Trump administration. CBS’s Margaret Brennan on Meet the Press challenged Rubio, saying that free speech was weaponized and that’s what caused the Holocaust.

Rubio answered, “I have to disagree with you… The genocide was conducted by an authoritarian Nazi regime… There was no free speech in Nazi Germany… That’s not an accurate reflection of history.”

President Trump cut the EU out of negotiations with Russia and Ukraine to end the war. Also kept out is Ukraine President Zelensky. He retaliated by stating during interviews with American journalists that the US isn’t dependable and he wants a united European army to stand against Russia. He also wants $250 billion from the West to keep the war going, and proposes forming a European NATO, excluding the United States.

Trump’s Historic Approval

The President enjoys ratings that are higher than any during his first administration.

The highest support is for the Government’s recognition of only two sexes, as 63 percent. February 12, a federal judge forced Trump to reinstate the government webpages promoting DEI and LGBTQ ideology.

The administration wasted no time in slapping the following warning on each one:

“Any information on this page promoting gender ideology is extremely inaccurate and disconnected from the immutable biological reality that there are two sexes, male and female. The Trump Administration rejects gender ideology and condemns the harms it causes to children, by promoting their chemical and surgical mutilation, and to women, by depriving them of their dignity, safety, well-being, and opportunities. This page does not reflect biological reality and therefore the Administration and this Department reject it.”

A group of supposed families of children who want to “transition” is suing to block the Trump administration from placing restrictions on such medical service. A judge has placed a temporary block on Trump’s Executive Order banning mutilation surgeries and drugs.

Hostages Home

Beneficiaries of Trump’s strong leadership include the former hostages held by Hamas terrorists. Three more were released in exchange for 369 Palestinian hostages.

Prime Minister Netanyahu praised President Trump as Israel’s strongest ally and vowed to dismantle Hamas’ military and political power in Gaza. He warned Hezbollah against violating ceasefire agreements and reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to regional security.

Former hostage Keith Siegel, 65, posted a thank-you on X. He wrote: “Since February 1st, I am a newly released Hamas hostage. I am a survivor. I was held for 484 days in unimaginable conditions, and every single day felt like it could be my last.

“President Trump, you are the reason I am home alive. You are the reason I was reunited with my beloved wife, four children, and five grandchildren.

“Thank you for your continued fight against terror and for your bold leadership that brought me and many others back home to our families, to safety and to security.”

How to Pray: Praise the Lord for sparing Keith’s life! Pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and for sound policies regarding Israel and her neighbors. Thank God for good judgment and right thinking by Trump, Vance, Rubio, and others who are setting a new and stronger course for our country. God is good! Also pray for European people to demand better from their governments.
